Once upon a time, 'Winnebago' was synonymous with 'motorhome.' The brand name had evolved into a generic term, like 'band aid' or 'kleenex.' How did this evolution happen? Simple: Winnebago Industries put motor homes within the financial reach of middle-class consumers.

Winnebago Industries was founded in 1960 to save the farming hamlet of Forest City, Iowa. Forward-thinking civic leaders lured a travel trailer factory from California to Forest City in order to bolster the area's flagging rural economy. By developing innovations in the motor home manufacturing process (and by building their own interior components), Winnebago Industries managed to produce quality motorhomes that sold for less than half the price of competitors' models. Middle-class consumers bought Winnebago motor homes as fast as the company could produce them, starting in 1966. By 1977, Winnebago had produced 100,000 motorhomes - more than any other RV manufacturer had ever made.

People still love Winnebagos. The company now produces two model lines: Winnebago and Itasca. More people continue to choose Winnebago motor homes than any other brand. Part of this success comes from the fact that Winnebago Industries sticks to making only Class A Motorhomes and Class C motorhomes. They do not produce travel trailers, fifth wheels or other types of campers. This focus on doing one thing extraordinarily well pays off. Winnebago owners are extremely loyal.

Still headquartered in Forest City, Winnebago continues to produce affordable, appealing RVs that are rigorously tested for safety and quality. Winnebago and Itasca motor homes are widely available across North America.
